Partnering with a local developer, O’Brien House earned tax credits from the State of Louisiana to develop a low-income housing project adjacent to the existing campus. The three-story structure contains 32 single occupancy dormitories, with shared bathing and dining facilities for former clients of the rehabilitation program. Designing a durable facility, a requirement for earning the tax credits, while eliminating the institutional-feel that many low-income housing projects exhibit was the primary challenge. Using brick, stucco, and hardiplank, Domain Design was able to bring the scale of the building down to a typical residence while maintaining the longevity of the structure.
